Monday: Estimation Jar and Sharing Sack - During the week before a student is Chef of the Week, an empty jar and a bag will be sent home with the child to be returned on Monday.
Tuesday: Favorite Book - The Featured Chef brings one of his or her favorite books to read to the class. Students may read the book aloud to the class if it can be read in less than 10 minutes or give a book-talk if the book is longer.
Wednesday: Parent Letter - Parents, please write a letter to the class telling us about your Chef. Send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your child, and I will read the letter to the class during the day. The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from the following ideas: Tell special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear, write a poem about your child, tell us some neat things we may not know about your child, send pictures with a letter describing the pictures, or write a short story with your child as the main character. You may also send a video for the class to watch if you choose.
Thursday: Lunch Buddy - If possible, join your Chef of the Week for a special lunch on this day during his/her lunch period (12:00-12:45 for second grade, 12:30-1:15 for third grade). You may also choose to ask a sibling, a favorite relative or family friend to be your child’s lunch buddy. You may have the buddy be a surprise or let your child know ahead of time. If you are unable to make it or send someone, please let me know, and I will plan a special lunch for your child. Please note that these lunches are not parties for the entire class or a group of friends, but a special time for you to spend with your child. Bringing pizza or special snacks for the entire class is not permitted.
Friday: Featured Chef Recognition: The Chef of the Week will be recognized by his or her classmates and presented with a "Chef of the Week" class-made book. We will reveal the number of items in the Estimation Jar. The items will be returned unless otherwise advised.
